It is not certain how the Dutch title must or may be interpreted. The
word Verbond means Alliance but also Union or
Treaty (such as a concordat between church and state). The phrase
het Oude en Nieuwe Verbond even refers to the Old and the New
Testament of the Bible. Moreover, the Dutch word
kat(h)edraal is not only used for the chief church
of a diocese, but may be used for any large church building.
