Tongue, 通 or Tong is a selection of poems by
Vincent van Mechelen in which
special attention is being paid to language, 'our tongue'.
The originals are in
This Language, in
这种语言 (Zhezhong Yuyan) and in
Deze Taal.
The collection includes five traditional Chinese antithetical or 'duilian'
couplets which have been translated into English, and one original Dutch
poem by
Sonja van Mechelen-de Bie which has been
translated into both English and Esperanto.
None of the originals and translations by Vincent van Mechelen was ever
published on paper before.
The two-page introduction to duilian couplets, the translations of old
couplets and the new ones created have not even appeared on the Internet.
Below you will find:
Short description in This Language
This is the first collection of poems by Vincent van Mechelen published on
paper.
It comprises thirteen original 1- to 10-page poems in This Language and
seven translations.
(There is a translation, parallel version or counterpart of every poem
appearing here in Chinese or Dutch.)
For the present selection poems which somehow deal with (an aspect of)
language, which are the clear result of linguistic cross-fertilization or
which have a counterpart in another language have been given priority.
